MoneyPy Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2026.
MoneyPy is a native Mac app published by Raging Coders. This page explains what data MoneyPy uses, where it is stored, and who — if anyone — it is shared with. If anything below is unclear, email support@ragingcoders.com and we will respond directly.
The short version
- Your accounts, transactions, budgets and settings are stored locally on your Mac in a single file (a “book”) that you own. There is no MoneyPy account, no MoneyPy server, and nothing is uploaded to us — because there is no “us” to upload it to.
- We do not run analytics, crash reporting or advertising in MoneyPy, and we do not sell or share your data with anyone.
- Every connection to an outside service is optional or limited to what is described below. If you never turn an optional feature on, MoneyPy never talks to it.
What MoneyPy stores, and where
Everything you enter or import — accounts, balances, transactions, categories, budgets, loans, holdings, tax settings and your preferences — is kept in your book file. By default the book lives in MoneyPy's own sandboxed storage on your Mac. You can also open or keep a book anywhere you choose, for example in a folder that is backed up or synced by a service you use; that service, not MoneyPy, then handles the file. MoneyPy also keeps automatic restore points of your book in its own storage on your Mac.
If you set up an optional connection that needs a key or token (a bank connection through SimpleFIN or an AI provider key), that secret is saved inside your book file on your Mac and is not encrypted by MoneyPy. Anyone who can open your book file can read it, so treat the file like your other financial documents.
You can export your data at any time, or delete the book file to remove everything MoneyPy has stored.
What leaves your Mac
MoneyPy makes no network connections of its own except the following, each of which sends only what is listed:
- Exchange rates: Only if you use more than one currency. Once a day while MoneyPy is open it asks a public exchange-rate service (Frankfurter, which publishes European Central Bank rates) for the latest rates. The request contains only your display currency code. No account or transaction information is sent.
- Security prices: When you update prices for investments, MoneyPy asks a public quote service (Yahoo Finance) for the latest price. The request contains only the ticker symbol.
- Bank connection (SimpleFIN): Off unless you set it up. MoneyPy then connects to your own SimpleFIN account, using a token you provide, to download your account balances and transactions. MoneyPy never sees your bank passwords.
- AI assistant: Off unless you set it up. If you enter your own API key for an AI provider, the questions you ask and the finance information needed to answer them (for example, summaries of the period you are looking at) are sent to the provider endpoint you configured. With no key configured, nothing is ever sent. The provider's own privacy policy applies to what it receives.
- Property values: If you ask MoneyPy to look up a property on Zillow, it opens Zillow in your web browser. You copy the details yourself and paste them into MoneyPy; MoneyPy does not send your data to Zillow.
Purchases and the free trial
MoneyPy is free to try for 7 days. A one-time purchase through the Mac App Store then unlocks it. Apple processes the purchase; MoneyPy never receives your payment details or Apple ID. To apply the 7-day trial, MoneyPy saves the date it was first opened on your Mac in your Mac's Keychain, separate from your book. Nothing about it is sent to us.
What we don't do
- We don't collect your data on a server we operate. There isn't one.
- We don't run analytics or crash reporting that sends your usage or data off your Mac.
- We don't sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We don't require an account or sign-in to use the app.
Your choices
Every optional connection can be turned off in Settings at any time, which stops MoneyPy from using it going forward. You can export your data whenever you like, and deleting your book file (and MoneyPy's restore points, which are removed with the app's storage) removes what MoneyPy has stored.
Changes to this policy
If MoneyPy’s handling of data changes, we will update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
